How to show $ \dim X \times Y = \dim X + \dim Y$?

Let $X, Y$ be affine algebraic sets inside $\mathbb{A}^n_{\mathbb{C}}$. I was wondering how can one show that $\dim X \times Y = \dim X + \dim Y$? Any comments are appreciated. Thank you.
