I am not sure that I understand your question. The expression
2^2is the same as $2^2$ and itmeans multiplying $2$ by itself $2$ times. So $$ 2^2 = 2\cdot 2 = 4. $$ Now it happens that $2$ plus $2$ is also equal to $4$. It is not true in general that $n^m = n + m$. For example $3^2 = 3\cdot 3 = 9$ and $3 + 3 = 6$.
