Can I denote $f'(g(x))=\frac{\text{d}}{\text{d}(g(x))} f(g(x))$?

Wikipedia avoids this by letting $y=f(u), u=g(x)$ and then denoting $f'(g(x))=\frac{\text{d}y}{\text{d}u}$.
