The famous Hilbert's nineteenth problem, initially stated in the $C^\omega$ category, was reduced by Bernstein and Petrowsky to the analogous statement in the $C^\infty$ category (and, after subsequent reductions, was finally solved independently by De Giorgi and Nash), see here.
